33 Years of Hockey Experience

Our Instructors are second to none

TBS Hockey is renowned for its highly professional, experienced, dedicated, and energetic instructors. These characteristics are directly reflected in the learning/training environment created on the ice.

Our camps are designed with the primary objective of promoting skill development through supportive, but challenging ice sessions that will increase a player’s confidence and their ability think and make decisions on the ice – hockey sense.

Specifically, our innovative training methods and techniques will enhance each participant’s ability to improve in the basic fundamentals vital to the game of hockey – skating, passing, puck handing, shooting, and checking (when appropriate).

 Teaching Experience

All instructors have a wealth of experience teaching and coaching both on the ice and in the classroom. As a result, each participant will be exposed to organized and stimulating ice sessions that are developmentally appropriate for the age categories involved. In addition, players will be exposed to drills and activities that allow players to engage in multiple repetitions when developing various skills. In other words, our ice sessions are organized to avoid long “line ups” when participating in drills, as players are constantly moving.

Overall, this increases confidence, improves skill, and keeps them actively involved throughout the ice session.

Our instructors realize the importance of progression. A consistent theme throughout our camps feature basic skills being introduced early in the week with more advanced skills and tactics presented in the later part of the camp. Overall, players will be able to develop and improve at their own pace throughout the week.

Our camp also features a low instructor to player ratio on the ice which ensures that all players will receive the necessary teaching points and feedback required for the overall learning, refining, and improvement of skills and tactics.

Skills & Drills

OVERVIEW

Young players learn best when expectations are explained, demonstrated, and practiced in a positive atmosphere, especially when there is a logical progression of teaching skills suited to their current skill level and needs.

As a result, each TBS SKILLS & DRILLS Clinic is purposefully structured in a way that provides each player with more individual instruction and a higher number of repetitions for practicing various skills and tactics.

DATES: August 14 - 18
* All 1 hour of on-ice instruction

CATEGORIES: Dynamite / Atom / Peewee

REGISTRATION FEE: $200.00 per clinic

This creates a fun and optimal learning environment for each player which ultimately leads to enhanced learning. Overall, our SKILLS & DRILLS sessions ensure that players are always actively engaged and moving and are subjected to constant feedback from instructors.

For all TBS SKILLS & DRILLS clinics, coaches will provide instruction in a “small group” environment that features dividing the ice into “stations”.

This arrangement promotes and enhances maximum learning and development of players. Each station will emphasize a particular skill and/or tactic and will provide opportunities for players to repeatedly work on targeted skills and tactics relevant to the SKILLS & DRILLS clinic being conducted. Players are grouped into 4 or 5 stations on the ice (depending on the clinic) with a minimum of four qualified coaches on the ice for each session.

Players are divided into groups with individuals of the same age and/or skill level to ensure that each group is being instructed and challenged appropriately. Organizing the players into age/skill specific groups provides a more comfortable learning environment – which allows individual players to train with more confidence and permits additional opportunities to practice and develop their skills at their own related pace.

All sessions begin with a skill warm – up that physically and mentally prepare the players for the clinic being offered. Each session will end with a fun/competitive small-area game that allows the players to apply the learned skills in a game-like environment.

Skills involved in the clinic:

  • PROPER SKATING TECHNIQUES
  • SHOOTING
  • PUCK SKILLS

Each drill is designed with developmentally appropriate progressions for the specific purpose of challenging and facilitating the improvement of each player.

Each TBS Shooting & Scoring Skills & Drills session is purposefully structured in a way that provides each player with more individual instruction and a higher number of repetitions for practicing each skill.

This creates a fun and optimal learning environment for each player. All sessions begin with a skill warm – up that physically and mentally prepares the players for the session.

Players are then divided into stations with individuals of the same age and/ or skill level to ensure that each group is being instructed and challenged appropriately. Players will rotate through each station focusing on a variety of individual offensive skills and tactics.

BATTLE CAMP

Hockey is a continuous series of 1 on 1 battles in all areas of the ice; battles along the wall, battles in the corners, and battles in front of the net.
Players that possess the skills and tactics to effectively combat for ice, body position, and loose pucks win the vast majority of these 1 on 1 battles.

With our curriculum and expertise staff, the TBS BATTLE CAMP will provide your child with the knowledge and confidence to use their body and stick effectively to consistently gain possession of the puck and allow them to “gain the edge” over their opponents.

Overall, the program will encompass drills, activities, and small-area games that simulate game “battle” and “compete” situations.

The TBS BATTLE CAMP is open to ATOM and PEE WEE aged players.  Depending on your child’s age and level, the major focus of the BATTLE CAMP is to develop the following components:

  • Proper BODY and STICK POSITION to effectively take away the opponent’s time
    and space with the puck.
  • CONTACT CONFIDENCE and BODY CONTACT.

Overall, players will learn what it takes to compete and win important battles that occur during game situations while simultaneously learning to protect themselves in all areas of the ice.

Players will leave this camp with a better understanding of the combative and physical components of the game and most importantly – develop a player’s ability to compete confidently and safely during game situations.

TBS BATTLE CAMP FORMAT

Each session will begin with a warm-up activity followed by full-ice drills that will be conducted with both ATOM and PEE WEE aged players.

The warm-up and full-ice component will focus on specific skating skills that emphasize edge control and balance which are a prerequisite skills necessary for effective angling and positioning for both ATOM and PEE WEE aged players.

Overall, players will be unable to grasp and execute skills such as positioning, angling, and body checking if they are unable to skate comfortably and control the edges of their skates with ease.

Eventually the ice will be divided into two sections with each age group performing other drills and activities in their respective ends that are specific to their age category.

In other words, one end of the ice will be retained for ATOM aged players while the opposite end will be reserved for PEE WEE aged players.

TBS BATTLE CAMP SPLIT ICE SESSIONS

ATOM aged players will continue to work on drills that focus on angling and effective body and stick position in order to effectively learn how to take away opponent’s time and space with the puck without making body contact.

Ice sessions will also include drills and small-area games that focus on creating a competitive and “battle focus” environment.

The specialized training that these drills and games offer is designed to develop the individual player’s offensive and defensive skills/tactics needed for gaining an advantage over their opponent in small areas and to challenge them to reach beyond their comfort zone.

Overall, the following skills and tactics will be introduced and developed during the ATOM component of the camp:

1 on 1 DEFENSIVE SKILLS & TACTICS IN SMALL AREAS

  • Defensive-side positioning, inside out positioning, and angling
controlling and containing of your opponent.
  • Pressure vs. contain situations.
  • Steering and deflecting –delaying the advancement of the opposition.
  • Stick checks and stick position – force a loss of puck control by the opposition.

1 on 1 OFFENSIVE SKILLS & TACTICS IN SMALL AREAS

  • Puck skills in tight spaces – strategies for handling the puck in traffic.
  • Puck protection and puck possession skills-gaining and keeping possession of the puck.
  • Puck control skills along the boards.
  • Net presence – body position in front of the net.
  • Body position to gain an offensive advantage on loose pucks.

Overall, the outcome of the camp for ATOM aged players will enhance each player’s ability to force his/her opponent to go in the direction that he/she wants them to go and to provide strategies (skills and tactics) to confidently play with the puck in tight quarters in order to protect, advance, and keep the puck in a “battle” situation.
